We take great pride in our commitment to inclusivity and ensuring access for all individuals.
At Billingham Community Centre, we have taken measures to ensure maximum accessibility for our learners.
Here's what you can expect:
Getting Here:
Billingham Community Centre features a ground floor reception with automatic doors for easy access. Additionally, we offer free on-site parking located at the rear of the building, including designated bays specifically reserved for individuals with a blue badge.
For those using public transportation, there is a bus stop right on our doorstep serving number 35 & 36 Stagecoach bus services.
If you have concerns about travel costs, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team for more information on the assistance we may be able to provide.
Disabled Toilet Facilities:
Our commitment to accessibility extends to our facilities as well. On the ground floor of our building, you will find our Disabled Toilet Facilities, equipped with the following features:
- Handrails and grab bars for added support and safety.
- An alarm system with a pull cord to ensure immediate assistance if needed.
- A lowered sink for ease of use and accessibility.
We believe in creating an inclusive environment where all individuals can comfortably participate and engage. By prioritising accessibility, we aim to remove barriers and ensure that everyone can fully enjoy and benefit from our community centre.
Stair Lift
As the age of our facility prevents the installation of a traditional lift, we have instead installed a Hiro Lift. This specially designed stair lift enables individuals to access any of our classrooms located on the first floor. Upon your arrival, our dedicated Business Support Team will be available to set up and operate the stair lift, providing any necessary assistance throughout its use.
The Hiro Lift has a weight capacity of up to 225kg, making it suitable for most wheelchairs. However, please note that it is not compatible with Power Chairs. If you are concerned about this limitation and how it may affect you, we kindly ask that you contact us prior to enrolling in our courses.
We are here to address any questions or concerns you may have and explore alternative arrangements if needed.
Carers and Support Workers
We understand that some individuals may require the presence of a carer or support worker to attend our classes comfortably. We are pleased to inform you that we allow carers or support workers to accompany you during the classes, and their attendance is free of charge.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, we kindly request prior notice if you plan to have a carer or support worker accompany you. This will enable us to make the necessary arrangements and collect the relevant details for safeguarding purposes. Prior to the course starting, we will ask for your carer's information and ensure that they are included in our records.
We want to ensure that your experience with us is as comfortable and supportive as possible. If you have concerns about attending a class or feel that you require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team. We are here to address any worries or questions you may have and provide the necessary support to ensure your participation in our courses is a positive and inclusive experience.
If you’re already a learner and have any suggestions to improve accessibility, please do not hesitate to contact us.
