During this course, you will be taught:
- Food Poisoning: Learn about the causes and symptoms of food poisoning, and how to prevent it by adopting safe food handling practices.
- Microbiology: Gain insight into the microorganisms that can contaminate food, including bacteria, viruses, and moulds, and understand the conditions under which they thrive.
- Personal Hygiene: Explore the importance of personal hygiene when handling food, including proper handwashing techniques, appropriate attire, and maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
- Temperature Control & Food Storage: Understand the principles of temperature control, including the 'danger zone', and learn best practices for storing different types of food to prevent spoilage and contamination
- Cleaning & Disinfection: Discover effective cleaning and disinfection methods for food preparation areas and equipment, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
- Pest Control: Learn about the risks posed by pests such as rodents and insects, and explore strategies to prevent and manage infestations in food-handling settings.
- Legislation: Familiarise yourself with the key food safety laws and regulations in the UK, including your responsibilities under the law.
- Allergen Awareness: Deepen your understanding of food allergens and their potential impact, and learn how to communicate allergen information effectively to protect those with food allergies.
