Hospitality Team Member Level 2

Overview

Apprentices will be placed in a hospitality role over a minimum of 15 months during which they will be supported while on-programme by their tutor. Their tutor will review the progress of the apprentice during the 15 months against the standard to ensure they are prepared for the End Point Assessment.

Who is this for?

A hospitality team member can work in a range of establishments, for example, bars, restaurants, cafés, conference centres, banqueting venues or hotels. The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they must be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business, for example, during busy periods.

Specialist areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation, housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting. The most important part of the role is developing fantastic hospitality skills and knowledge such as recognising customers’ needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel or attending a business conference, feels welcomed and looked after.

*On the job training is provided by the employer to ensure the apprentice meets the specifics of the specialist unit of choice.

What entry requirements do I need to start the apprenticeship?

Applicants must have the necessary A-C or 4+ GCSE grades needed to complete the apprenticeship, or if not, have passed Level 1 English and Maths Functional Skills (or have the appropriate exemption certificate) and work towards and attempt Level 2 Functional Skills before undertaking their End Point Assessment.

What will the apprenticeship cover?

The apprenticeship will give you the chance to learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst being employed.

• Principles of hospitality
• Understanding the operations of hospitality industry
• Customers
• Business
• People
Specialist area of choice: optional unit of choice.
This apprenticeship also has an End Point Assessment which you will be expected to complete to achieve the qualification. (see below)

Where and when will I learn?

The apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete.  During the apprenticeship you’ll attend regular training sessions at Billingham Community Centre to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship and you will be assessed in your work setting in preparation for an End Point Assessment.

You are also required to complete at least 20% off the job training with the support of your employer through a range of flexible approaches which will be discussed when you enrol for the apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship could help you develop your career with further training and development, maybe secure a higher apprenticeship where learners can progress to more senior or complex job roles such as hospitality supervisor in food and beverage, front office, hospitality outlet, housekeeping or revenue, shift leader or section leader.


You will have achieved a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification and developed confidence and interpersonal skills.
