An apprenticeship is a way to gain the skills, knowledge and experience you need to get into many careers. They combine work, training and study, allowing you to ‘earn while you learn’ and acquire the skills you need to pursue your chosen career.

Who are Apprenticeships for?

You can start an Apprenticeship from the age of 16 and there is no upper age limit. If you’re looking for your first job, already in a job and want to gain professional qualifications, thinking about re-training into a different career, or returning to work, an apprenticeship can help you develop important skills whilst gaining valuable work experience.

There are many different apprenticeships available across a wide range of industries and for a wide variety of job roles. As a paid employee, apprentices work alongside their studies, with day release for off the job training with the training provider.

You will receive valuable hands-on experience working whilst you learn, which helps you progress in your working life. There are no student fees – your training costs are funded by the government and your employer.

As your training is funded by contributions from the government and your employer, and you receive a regular salary, Apprenticeships are a great option for getting on the job ladder or supercharging your career, without incurring debts from your study.

What type of apprenticeships are there?

  • Intermediate (Level 2) – this is equivalent to 5 GCSE’s
  • Advanced (Level 3) – this is equivalent to 2 A Levels
  • Higher (Level 4 or 5) – this is equivalent to a BTEC, HND or Foundation Degree
