Overview

To deliver a high standard of learning, development & care for children aged 0-5 years. To ensure that the preschool nursery is a safe environment. Develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in the child’s development. Be responsible for any tasks delegated to them. To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Summary

Main responsibilities:

  • To deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years
  • To ensure that the preschool nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others
  • To developing partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development
  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Manager
  • To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship

Main activities:

  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
  • To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress
  • To help ensure the preschool nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times
  • To understand and work to preschool nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes
  • To be a key person
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the preschool aims and objectives

Wage/Working Week

  • Weekly wage

£129.00

  • Working week

You will work a minimum of 30 hours per week and spend 20% of your time in off the job training (usually at Stockton Council Learning & Skills at Billingham). You are also paid for time spent in off the job training.

Total hours per week: 30.00

About the Employer

We provide childcare and after school care from birth to 11 years in our nursery on Yarm High Street, and at Challoner House, for children from Eaglescliffe, Yarm and the surrounding areas.

Puddleducks Childcare is run by Deb Wright. Having worked in managerial roles throughout her childcare career she decided to set up nursery childcare facilities in our local area and provide a home from home environment.

We are an extremely qualified and experienced childcare team who care for children of all ages. We have a very happy, friendly and secure environment.

Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You will have a workplace mentor who will provide you with training, information, advice, and guidance on a daily basis. You will also have an Assessor who will visit you in the work place and take your lessons when you have your off the job training sessions. Off the job training mostly takes place at Billingham Community Centre
  • The apprenticeship also includes Functional Skills in English and maths at Level 2, but you may be exempt from these depending on your previous qualifications
  • The apprenticeship will give you the chance to learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst being employed. Apprentices will complete eighteen months in their work placement and attend their taught sessions to support their studies
  • The course will cover many different topics, examples include: Understanding Your Own Role & Responsibilities, Health & Safety of Babies & Young Children, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Child Development, and, Support & Planning for Children to Learn
  • You will also be expected to work with your employer closely, as you need to be able to gather witnessed practice statements and reviews from your employer
  • Within this course, you will be expected to evidence your knowledge, understanding, and skills by demonstrating them in the workplace and how you behave when working within this sector. You will need to be proactive in the way you gather your evidence to build your portfolio.  Within this apprenticeship you will also need to complete Paediatric First Aid qualification
  • This apprenticeship also has an End Point Assessment which you will be expected to complete to achieve the qualification
