Overview

Working in a busy chemists in Ingleby Barwick you will provide a warm welcome and excellent customer service to everyone who comes into the shop and also over the phone and via email. You will help with displaying and promoting products and also support the wider team. It will also include some admin duties so good computer skills are essential.

Apprenticeship Summary

You will be providing excellent customer service to customers, serving on the counter and using the till. You will also be working towards achieving your Level 2 Customer Service apprenticeship qualifications and will spend 20% of your time in off the job training.

This will be a varied role, everyday will be different but it will include duties such as:

  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Serving on the till and taking payments
  • Ordering stock
  • Stock control
  • Process orders
  • Admin tasks
  • Talking to customers and suppliers face to face, over the phone, and via email
  • Keeping the pharmacy clean, tidy, and secure
  • Displaying products
  • Helping with promotions and campaigns
  • Some social media work may be included

£137.60

  • Working week

32 hrs/week. For guidance the working week is likely to be 7.30-5 Wed-Fri, with off the job training on Tuesday at Billingham. You will also be paid for any time spent in off the job training. Some flexibility may be needed regarding shifts.

Working in a busy chemists in Ingleby Barwick you will provide a warm welcome and excellent customer service to everyone who comes into the shop and also over the phone and via email. You will help with displaying and promoting products and also support the wider team. It will also include some admin duties so good computer skills are essential.

You will receive training and support everyday from your colleagues and you will also have an Assessor who will visit you in the workplace and also take your classroom sessions for your off the job training at our training centre in Billingham.

Your apprenticeship will also include Functional Skills in English and maths although you can sometimes be exempt from these depending on your previous qualifications.

The apprenticeship will give you the chance to learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst being employed. Sample topics which will be covered include:

  • Knowing your customers
  • Understand the organisation
  • Meeting regulations and legislation
  • Systems and resources
  • Your role and responsibilities
  • Communication
  • Dealing with challenging customers
  • Product and service knowledge

Apprentices will need to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and behaviours across the occupational standards and provide performance evidence to support their tasks and role.

This apprenticeship also has an End Point Assessment which you will be expected to complete to achieve the qualification.  This includes:

  • An observation in the workplace
  • Professional discussion
  • Showcase of your portfolio of work/knowledge and performance evidence

Desired skills

Must have great communication skills, IT skills, be able to work on their own initiative and also be happy to work with the rest of the team.

Personal qualities

Must be polite and friendly and able to give customers a warm welcome, and also remain calm and polite when dealing with any problems. Must be honest, reliable and willing to learn.

Must have a friendly demeanour with good communication skills, a positive and motivated attitude and be able to demonstrate a commitment to industriousness and able to use their initiative. 

Desired qualifications

GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and maths. An IT qualification would also be an advantage.
