After gaining my role as Senior Family Group Conference Practitioner, myself and my Team Manager both agreed that I needed to gain management skills and knowledge to help me develop in the role. I contacted Stockton Council Learning and Skills Service and arranged to attend a drop in session to find out about the apprenticeships that were open to myself. We both agreed that the Team Leader/supervisor apprenticeship would give me the foundation to develop and the opportunity to gain the skills and behaviours needed of an effective manager.
Once I was enrolled for the Level 3 Management and Leadership Apprenticeship , I was given all of the information I needed and got agreement for the time away from my role to attend the course fortnightly.
At times it has been difficult to manage the work for the qualification and whilst fulfilling my role, however I have had great support from my manager and also my tutor who understand the challenges faced and they have both offered the needed support. I have gained so much knowledge as a first-time manager that I put into practice in my everyday role.
I would highly recommend an apprenticeship as I feel I have gained valuable skills that I will carry with me throughout my career.
