You will need to be in a nursery or school nursery setting to complete the Early Years programme. The aim of the qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age with applied knowledge in early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the requirements to enable you to work this sector at level 3 standard.
Who is this for?
This course is aimed at those of you who want to specifically work in the Early Years sector from 0-5 years, either within a private nursery or school nursery, and want to progress within this sector.
What entry requirements do I need to start the apprenticeship?
Applicants need to be aged 16 or over and will need to hold a relevant English and maths qualification at GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) or be prepared to achieve Functional Skills qualifications as part of their course.
Apprentices need to be in a suitable role in order to apply the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the apprenticeship with the support of their employer.
What will the apprenticeship cover?
The apprenticeship will give you the chance to learn and gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst being employed. Apprentices will complete eighteen months in their work placement and attend their taught sessions to support their studies.
The course will cover many different topics, examples include: Understanding Your Own Role & Responsibilities, Health & Safety of Babies & Young Children, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Child Development, and, Support & Planning for Children to Learn.
You will also be expected to work with your employer closely, as you need to be able to gather witnessed practice statements and reviews from your employer.
Within this course, you will be expected to evidence your knowledge, understanding, and skills by demonstrating them in the workplace and how you behave when working within this sector. You will need to be proactive in the way you gather your evidence to build your portfolio. Within this apprenticeship you will also need to complete Paediatric First Aid qualification.
This apprenticeship also has an End Point Assessment which you will be expected to complete to achieve the qualification.
Where and when will I learn?
The apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete. During the apprenticeship you’ll attend regular training sessions at Billingham Community Centre to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship and in preparation for End Point Assessment.
You are also required to complete at least 20% off the job training with the support of your employer through a range of flexible approaches, which will be discussed when you enrol for the apprenticeship.

For the first session you would need to bring;
- Proof of your previous qualifications and proof of identity
- Laptop (if preferred)
- Notebook and stationary

The qualification will provide progression opportunities to other qualifications such as:
Level 4 courses within childcare and a Foundation Degree in Early Years.
